HAVERGATE ISLAND AFTER SEA SURGE DEC 2013

The wife and I took a walk round the sea wall at Orford today, the damage and flooding on Havergate Island is bad, the sea wall at Havergate was over topped in several places causing bad flooding to centre of the island.

  1. Hi John,

Good photos and great for us to see.

The breach above is the man made hole that allows part of the island to flood every tide. The surge overtopped the walls in at least two places but they have held (as far as we can tell) It will take at least a month for the lagoons to drain. The damage to the visitor infrastructure is another matter and we will land on the island for the first time this week to fully assess.

    Cheers
    Aaron

  2. Cheers for info, my father in law built several hides for Havegate in the 60's and 70's. I helped build one in the late 60's, My wife's Uncle and cousin Reg Partridge and John Partridge were wardens on Havergate, John is not too well at at the moment.
