THE SEARCH FOR THE ELUSIVE BLACK-WINGED KITE

Wednesday 19th July

We had heard on the grapevine (whatsapp), that there was a Black-winged Kite just up the coast in Norfolk, the only second record for the UK. We were originally going to try to find some Southern Migrant Hawkers at Sudbourne, but with the above news it was decided to make the trip over the border for the Kite.

Eddie drove and Julie and I as passengers. Well it turned out to be a frustrating and long day without the sight of the Kite, so we headed home with our tails between our legs.

Thursday 20th July

Early evening the Black-winged Kite was found at Kingsfleet, Felixstowe, Eddie and one or two others had returned to Horsey in Norfolk to give the Kite another try, only to find that it had flown down to Suffolk, slightly frustrating.

Friday 21st July

Laurence and I decided to get up early and see if the Kite had stayed at Kingsfleet, we arrived at Marsh Lane, together with loads of twitchers. Got distant views as it was near the River wall. So we hopped into the car and drove to the ferry and walked along the river wall to get a better view. Well we were rewarded with some fantastic views, still a bit distant but just photo graphical. (Eddie also saw it very early in that morning).

Also we were entertained by two very close flyover Bitterns

What a day to remember !!!!
